History

Ruth & Frank SpriggsIn the 1870’s, the sites of present day Bayberry and Ulmstead Estates were part of 400 acres of land belonging to Mr. James Spriggs. In about 1890, Mr. Spriggs gave his daughter, Ruth, 101 acres in the Bayberry area when she married.

Pieces of the farm have been sold over the years, creating Ulmstead Estates and Bayberry. The remaining farm, about 50 acres, bordering Bayberry Road, the Magothy River, and Stonington, was owned by Mr. Franklin O. Spriggs. Mr. Spriggs died of a heart attack in 1930 leaving the farm to his wife Ruth Elizabeth Spriggs. Mrs. Spriggs died at the age of 100 on February 13, 2008.
